The effect of catastrophes on the strategic customer behavior in queueing systems

We consider the single server Markovian queue subject to Poisson generated catastrophes. Whenever a catastrophe occurs, all customers are forced to abandon the system, the server is rendered inoperative and an exponential repair time is set on. During the repair time new arrivals are allowed to join the system. We assume that the arriving customers decide whether to join the system or balk, based on a natural linear reward‐cost structure with two types of rewards: A (usual) service reward for those customers that receive service and a (compensation) failure reward for those customers that are forced to abandon the system due to a catastrophe. We study the strategic behavior of the customers regarding balking and derive the corresponding (Nash) equilibrium strategies for the observable and unobservable cases. We show that both types of strategic behavior may be optimal: to avoid the crowd or to follow it. The crucial factor that determines the type of customer behavior is the relative value of the service reward to the failure compensation. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 基于核心素养的高中英语阅读策略教学实证研究

本研究基于英语学科核心素养,在围绕主题意义开展的阅读文本解读活动中,偶发式引导学生关注某些阅读策略,结合使用"三段八环"阅读策略训练模式,选择预测、跳读、寻读、猜词、结构分析、推理判断策略作为重点项目,进行了为期四个月的阅读策略训练教学干预。研究结果发现该方式总体上提高了学生的阅读能力,不同组别中中间组的阅读能力最为明显,三组学生在细节搜索能力、判断推理能力、猜测词义能力和主旨大意概括能力发展趋势不同,但是组间距离逐渐减少。鉴于此,最后提出了提升学生阅读策略使用意识、阅读能力导向策略的培养和文本解读任务与策略使用相融合的教学建议。     

混合式学习背景下在线学习策略的缺失及补偿

混合式学习已经成为当前教育趋势，对于混合式学习中的在线学习研究成果越来越丰富。本文通过网络平台问卷调查了混合式学习模式下大一新生在线学习情况，发现在线学习的最主要障碍之一是在线学习策略缺失，导致学习过程不顺畅。文章指出，针对在线学习的管理策略和元认知策略两方面，教师可以通过教学管理的具体手段给予干预，培养学生的在线学习策略，提高其学习效率，真正实现课堂教学和在线学习的高效融合。

搜索路径给定时的搜索对策问题及其应用

搜索路径给定时的最优搜索方案问题,也可以理解为是关于搜索者和目标的二人对策问题,主要讨论了当搜索路径给定时的单个搜索者和单个目标的搜索对策问题。首先根据问题的特点,利用动态规划和迭代的方法,确定关于目标逃逸路径混合策略的最优分区,证明该分区是多面体凸集;针对目标不同逃逸路径的分区,求出搜索者的最大期望收益,再将问题转化为二人有限零和对策,计算出搜索者的支付矩阵,确定最优搜索策略。最后结合海军护航行动,对我舰载直升机搜索小型海盗船进行分析和计算,说明搜索路径给定时的最优搜索对策对于双方的资源分配和提高搜索效率具有一定的应用价值。     

Explaining Cohesion in an Insurgent Organization: The Case of the Mizo National Front

Despite the prevalence of violent uprisings against the states, existing literature has produced a generalized explanation of the causes and onset of such uprisings ignoring crucial aspects of (non-state) armed group cohesion, such as their capabilities to manage intra-group tensions and rivalries. In this paper, I examine recent research in the field of civil conflict to understand the importance of investigating underlying constraints which can cause serious impediments to the capabilities of a state during the course of a war. The paper then focuses on the importance of internal strategic resources, such as pre-war and wartime sociopolitical networks in which insurgents mobilize, recruit new cadres and maintain intra-group cooperation, to suggest how it can contain the consequences of counterinsurgency operations and other state strategies on the internal cohesion of an insurgent group. A detailed case study of the Mizo National Front (MNF) in India demonstrates the argument’s plausibility.
